Crochet Deer Pattern

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr –  treble crochet

Materials Used

  • Brown, cream, black and white cotton or wool.
  • Crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Thread to sew together.
  • Sewing needle.
  • Darning needle to weave in ends.

 

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 dc into loop and pull tight. Sl st into 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch. 1 dc in same place as ch. Work 2 dc into each dc. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch. *Work 1 dc in each of next 2 dc and 2 dc in following dc, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st in 3rd ch.  Do not fasten off.

Crochet deer head

1st Ear

 Join cream cotton one stitch on from joining.

Row 1: 2 ch, 1 hdc in same st as ch, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st.  Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch Work a hdc cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

Around Ears

Using cotton from head work 1 sc in each of first 2 sts around ear, work 1 hdc in each st until 2 left, work 1 sc in last 2 sts.  Sl st into head and fasten off.

2nd ear

 Miss 8 sts from last ear and join cotton.
Work ear the same as last ear then work around the ear as before.

Face Part

Make a magic loop.
2 ch, 3 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, 4 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc and 1 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and sl st into 2nd ch.

Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc in same place, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc and 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc and 1 tr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc and 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc and 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc and 1 tr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc and 1 sc in next st.  Sl st in ch.  Fasten off.

Join cotton 1 st off centre.

Row 1: 2 ch 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and 2 hdc in following st.  Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch,1 hdc in each st.  Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, work a hdc cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

For other side of face part join cotton 3 stitches back from centre st and work the 3 rows the same as the 1st side.

Muzzle

Make a magic loop.
Work 3 ch, 7 dc, 1 hdc, 3 tr and 1 hdc into the circle and sl st into 3rd ch.  Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Nose

Make a magic loop.
3 ch work a 3 dc cluster in circle.  Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Eyes

Make a magic loop.
1 ch, 2 sc.  Pull circle tight. Join with a sl st.  Fasten off. Crochet deer inner eyes

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 2 ch, 2 hdc, 3 tr, 6 hdc, 3 tr, 3 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, work 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 hdc in next st, work 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st, work 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in remaining sts.  Sl st in 2nd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch, work 1 dc in same place, *Work 1 dc in each of next 2 sts and 2 dc in following st,*  around to halfway  *Work 2 hdc in next st and 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts,* repeat around to end.  Sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 4: 3 ch, work 1 dc in same place, *Work 1 dc in each of next 2 sts and 2 dc in following st,*  around to halfway  *Work 2 hdc in next st and 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts,* repeat around to end.  Sl st in 3rd ch.  Fasten off.

Crochet deer body

Tummy

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 2 ch, 2 hdc, 3 tr, 6 hdc, 3 tr, 3 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, work 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 hdc in next st, work 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st, work 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in remaining sts.  Sl st in 2nd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch, work 1 dc in same place, *Work 1 dc in each of next 2 sts and 2 dc in following st,*  around to halfway  *Work 2 hdc in next st and 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts,* repeat around to end.  Sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 sc in each st around.  Fasten off. Crochet deer tummy

Arms (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 3 ch and 3 dc into circle and pull tight.  Do not join.  Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in next st and 2 dc in last st.  Turn.
Row 3: 3 ch, 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 4: 3 ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in last 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 5: 3 ch, dc cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

Feet (Make 2)

Row 1: 8 ch, 4 tr in 5th ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 3 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in back of next 2 ch, sl st in 4th ch.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, 2 sc in each st around.  Sl st in ch. Fasten off. Crochet deer feet

1st Antler

Join cotton 1 st on from ear.
8 ch, miss 1 ch, 1 sc in each of next 5 ch, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each ch back to head, sl st into head.  Fasten off.

2nd Antler

Join cotton 2 sts before 2nd ear.
6 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 5 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sc into each st back to head.  Sl st into head.  Fasten off.

To make up

Weave in ends.  Attach the nose to the middle of the broader side of the muzzle and embroider a mouth on under the nose.

Sew the muzzle onto the face part as shown and attach an eye in the middle of each of the top parts of the face part.

Attach the face part to the head as shown.

Stitch the tummy part onto the body with the bottom of the tummy part at the bottom of the body.

Attach the arms to the body as shown.

Sew the head to the body and then the feet to each side of the bottom of the body.
