I have a crochet giraffe face pattern to share with you today as part of the ongoing train series that I have been doing.  The finished giraffe is going to look like this.

Crochet Giraffe Face Pattern 

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

  • Small amounts of lemon and brown crochet cotton or wool, I used 4 ply crochet cotton.
  • Crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
  • Needle for sewing giraffe together.
  • Black sewing or embroidery cotton to embroider on the eyes and mouth.
  • Darning needle to weave in ends.

Muzzle

Using brown cotton, make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 3 ch, 2 dc, 3 tr, 6 dc, 3 tr and 3 dc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 3rd ch.

Row 2:  1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 hdc and 1 sc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 1 sc and 1 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 hdc and 1 sc in following st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Join with sl st in ch.  Fasten off.

Top of Head

Join lemon cotton to between the hdc and sc.

Row 1: 1 ch, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  3 ch, a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, a joined dc over same st as last part of joined dc and next 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Horns (Make 2)

Using brown ch 7, work a sc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end.  Fasten off.

Ears (Make 2)

Join lemon cotton to side of head about 3 sts below horns.  4 ch, work a 3 tr cluster in same place as ch.  Fasten off.

Neck

Join lemon cotton to muzzle where shown.

Row 1:  2 ch, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Repeat row 2 until neck is the desired length.  Fasten off.

Spots

Using brown make 5 small random spots by making a magic loop and working 4-6 sts of sc, hdc and dc into circle and joining with a sl st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in endings.  Attach horns to top of head.

Attach 2 spots to top of head and 3 spots to neck.

Embroider on eyes and mouth.
