- Small amounts of desired colours of cotton or wool, I used 3 colours of 4 ply crochet cotton. Crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
- Sewing cotton to attach the wheels.
- Sewing needle.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end. Turn.
Rows 2 – 4: 1 ch, 1 sc in each sc to end. Turn.
Row 5: Sl st along to 3rd st, 1 ch, 1 sc in same st at 1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts. Miss these sts. Turn.
Rows 6 – 11: 1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.
Work sc edging around entire piece. Fasten off.
Top of Carriage
Using contrasting cotton ch 33 (I ch more than I think I will need).
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Holding ch against body of carriage as shown, work 1sc through the ch and carriage in each st across top. 1 sc in each of next 3 ch. If you have extra ch, pull then undone.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 sc in each sc across. Fasten off.
Wheels (Make 2)
Using contrasting colour make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 8 sc into loop. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in chain.
Join main wheel colour.
Row 1: 3 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 2 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) repeat to end. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch wheels to carriage body.
Crochet chain to fit between centres of the wheels and attach.
And here’s the train carriage in some different colors.
I hope you have enjoyed my pattern and I will be continuing the train series with an Elephant Face.
