Welcome to my crochet washing machine pattern. This was a request that I got and it’s going to be made for a sensory book. The finished washing machine will look like this.

Crochet Washing Machine Applique Pattern

Abbreviations 

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

  • I used white, grey and black 4 ply crochet cotton.
  • A crochet hook, I used a 1.5mm hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Thread to sew together.
  • Sewing needle.
  • Darning needle to weave in ends.

Size

Large Washing Machine (Using 8 ply wool)

12cm x 9cm or 4.75” x 3.5”

Medium Washing Machine (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

9cm x 7cm or 3.5” x 2.75”

Machine Body

Using white work 20 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch and work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Rows 2-17:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 18:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st along straight edges and 1 sc, 1 ch and 1 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Inner Door

Using grey make a magic loop.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 14 dc into circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  2 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch and 2 dc in each remaining st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Outer Door

Join white cotton to any st on inner door.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as ch, (2 hdc in front loop only of next st, 1 hdc in front loop only of following st) repeat to end of row.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in back loop only of each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.

Join grey cotton to any st of outer door.

Work 1 sl st in back loop only of each st around.  Join with a sl st in 1st st.  Fasten off.

Washing Powder Drawer and Filter Cover (Make 2)

Using white work 5 ch.

Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 1 sc, 1 ch and 1 sc in corner sts along sides and bottom but not along top.  Fasten off.

Control Panel

Using black work 5 ch.

Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Don’t fasten off.

Program Dial

Using grey make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 5 sc into circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch centre of door to middle of machine.

Sew the sl st row of the door to the machine.

Embroider a handle on the washing powder drawer and then stitch it to one side of the top of the machine using grey cotton as shown.

Embroider a handle on the filter cover and sew it to the bottom side of the machine using grey cotton.

Embroider dots on the control panel then stitch it to the top of the machine on the opposite side to the washing powder drawer.

Stitch the program dial to the machine between the washing powder drawer and the control panel.

Embroider marks around the program dial if desired.
