Welcome to my flip flops crochet pattern. The finished flip flops are going to look like this.  I was asked if I could design some appliques for a beach scene so this is the first of the series, I’ll have a beach umbrella and chair to follow soon.

Flip Flops Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used 

  • 3 colours of cotton or wool, I used 8 ply wool which is light worsted in the US and double knit in the UK.
  • A crochet hook, I used a 2.5mm hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Thread to sew together.
  • Sewing needle.
  • Darning needle to weave in ends.
  • A bead for the middle of the flower if desired.

Size

Large (Using 8 ply wool)

7cm x 3.5cm or 2.75” x 1.5”

Medium (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

5cm x 2.5cm or 1.75” x 1”

Small (Using No. 20 crochet cotton)

3cm x 1.5cm or 1.25” x .75”

Sole

4 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch. work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st and 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Rows 3-4:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st and a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Rows 6-7:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Rows 10-11:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work a dc cluster over all 3 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Work another sole the same but turn over before working the neatening row.

Straps (Make 2)

14 ch.

Miss the 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Flowers (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

1 ch, (work 1 dc and 1 tr) 5 times.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Attach one end of a strap to each side of the sole as shown.

Sew the flower on to the middle of the strap with the bead, stitching through to the back of the sole.
